Fritz Michel was born in Paris, France and moved to New Jersey in fourth grade. He received a BA in history from Yale University. After college, he moved to New York City where he worked for the Natural Resources Defense Council, a national environmental advocacy group. After an eight-year hiatus, he resumed his acting career. He studied with renowned teacher Terry Schreiber and was quickly cast in a string New York and regional productions including Alan Ayckbourn's
Bedroom Farce, Ira Levin's
Deathtrap, Rostand's
Cyrano de Bergerac,
Dangerous Liaisons,
The Foreigner,
Cheek by Jowl's Vanity Fair. Fluency in French led to roles in bilingual productions of Camus'
The Just/Les Justes, Rostand's
Cyrano de Bergerac and
Les Liasons Dangeureuses by Choderlos de Laclos. Fritz made his Broadway debut in the National Actors Theater revival of
Inherit the Wind with George C. Scott and Charles Durning. While living in New York, Fritz produced live theater including early productions of Stephen Belber's (
Tape,
The Laramie Project) work.
In 2002, Fritz moved to Los Angeles to originate the role of William in Oren Safdie's critically-acclaimed comedy
Private Jokes, Public Places. After two Los Angeles productions, the show moved to NYC's La Mama, ETC in the spring of 2003 and transferred Off-Broadway later that year. The Young Allies production of Private Jokes, Public Places was named one of Los Angeles' top ten theater productions of 2003 by
Theater 2K.

More recently, Fritz has turned his attention to directing and producing. For the Theater Workshop of Nantucket, he directed Ira Levin's thriller

I'll Be Back Before Midnight!. In 2011, he directed readings of Oren's Safdie's
Checks & Balances at the Flea in Tribeca and
A False Solution at the Blank Theater in Los Angeles. He served as associate producer of
The Broken Giant a film starring Will Arnett which is part of MoMA's permanent collection. He produced Oren Safdie's stage play
The Bilbao Effect at the AIA Center for Architecture in 2010.
Fritz was a contributing writer to Comedy Central's deviant puppet show
Crank Yankers in 2002. He is also proud of his work as a voice actor/narrator for the Lend-A-Hand Society's collection of audio books and radio dramas.
He moved to New York in the summer of 2009 where he lives with his wife and two daughters.
